Profile: Huey Laugesen serves as the Executive Director of the Colorado State Shooting Association (CSSA), the official State Association of the NRA. A lifelong advocate for Second Amendment rights, Huey brings deep experience coordinating pro-Second Amendment advocacy through legislative engagement, legal actions, and public outreach campaigns.
Leadership & Advocacy:
● At CSSA, Huey spearheads state-level efforts to fight anti-gun legislation—including Colorado's new permit-to-purchase regime—by organizing opposition to anti-Second Amendment legislation, mobilizing members, and coordinating legal challenges.
● Under Huey’s leadership, CSSA joined forces with the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), and your National Rifle Association (NRA) in filing a lawsuit against Colorado’s 6.5% firearms & ammunition excise tax. CSSA has now also retained the legal counsel of Mountain States Legal Foundation in preparation for a lawsuit to overturn Colorado’s new permit-to-purchase common firearms regime.
● CSSA, its members, and Huey’s team played an important role in the defeat of Colorado’s attempted “assault weapon” bans in 2023 and 2024.
● Under Huey’s leadership, CSSA’s membership has increased by more than 170%—nearly tripling in under two years.

● As Executive Director, Huey oversees the day-to-day execution of strategy, communications, legislative affairs, legal actions, shooting competitions, membership, and development for CSSA.
