Changes in the NRA Board
We need to get reform minded directors on the board in 2022 and get a slate of reformers for the 2023 election
There are 2 unexpected vacancies on the NRA board as of today. The vacancies will not be filled for the short term as there are no unelected candidates from the 2021 election. The seats will be filled by a 1-year appointment by the candidates that are on the ballot for the 2022 election that started coming out this week.
First is the sad announcement that John L. Cushman of NY has passed away. Please pray for his wife and family.
Second, Todd Rathner of AZ resigned as he will be joining another Second Amendment Organization. Todd is a stalwart second amendment advocate and he will be a tremendous asset to his new organization.
EDIT: Hat tip to Bitter from the PA Gun Blog - John Cushman’s replacement will be for the remainder of his term as he was elected to a 3-year term in 2021. Todd Rathner’s will be for 1 year as he was up for re-election in 2023.
Phil Journey is the only sitting NRA Director advocating reform. Please help me to get elected to the board so I can join Phil in advocating for reform. Phil will be up for re-election in 2023.
It is well past time for the NRA to shift from a defensive mindset to an offensive mindset. We need new blood on the board that protects our members’ rights by advancing them, not just defending them.
I ask for your support when the ballot for the NRA Board election comes in the next issue of your NRA magazine. Please vote ONLY for Frank C Tait. Jeff Knox has a great article on bullet voting.
I am the only candidate on the ballot from a petition of the members and committed to being a true independent director providing accountability and transparency to NRA members.
I also ask that you share this message and ask your fellow NRA members to support my candidacy by only voting for board candidates that are committed to reforming the NRA.
Bitter's right, the term length is attached to the seat. These seats, along with any other vacancies, will be added to the bottom of the list of seats being elected in the upcoming balloting, but there won't be anything on the ballot about these, since ballots have already been printed. There should be almost as many seats being filled, as there are candidates on the ballot. We need to be sure to get Frank enough votes to win one of the 3-year seats. Then we need to recruit 20 to 25 well-qualified people to run for the Board next year, just in case the NRA still exists then.
Note edit to the post - Many thanks to Bitter from PA Gun Blog for correcting me on the succession timelines.
