I was contacted by Charlie Beers, the President pro tem of the NRA Board Nominating Committee, to review my background and suitability for the ballot. This is the fourth time I've been nominated for the Board and the first time I’ve ever received anything but a letter telling me I was not selected due to “better available candidates.”
I had only met Charlie once when he sat behind me at this year’s NRAAM.
Charlie said that he was personally calling everyone on his set of candidates who was nominated, including the currently sitting board members, and asking all candidates the same question.
I’ve sat on many boards and C-level executive nominating committees, and Charile’s approach was top-notch. He had about a dozen and a half questions that were professional and thorough, digging into my management and board experience and my management communication and collaboration approaches.
He brought up board meeting attendance as one of the questions, and we had a brief discussion of how I got started running for the board by picking up Adam Kraut’s mantle. For those who may not recall, one of Adam’s main points was the abysmal attendance of certain board members and why the nominating committee continues to renominate them to serve on the board if they never come to meetings.
Kudos to Charlie for professionally and competently stepping up to his responsibilities on the Nominating Committee. Other board members would be well served to learn from his stellar example.
Note Edit - Charlie is calling his set of candidates not all candidates. My error.
Frank I just had a friend send me this link. Thanks for the honest review but, in fairness I am calling my assigned pile as my priority. We each get a stack to dig into deepest. After that will call as many as time allows. I likely can’t reach everyone this week.

I hope the NRA realizes that many of us can not in good conscience financially support the organization while leaders and board members who were complicit in past wrong doing are still serving.
