I was at the Eagle Arms Holiday Gun Show in Oaks PA last weekend helping Firearms Owners Against Crime educate show attendees about protecting our Pennsylvania gun rights when I ran into Rob Pincus from Save the Second.
Rob was in town to run several seminars at the show. One of the seminars was the GMM Private Gun Making Educational Event where show participants could purchase a P80 kit and make their own firearm. I have made AR rifles before, but never a handgun. The only real work I’ve done on handguns is swapping out triggers on Glock 17’s.
Rob gifted me the frame and I had a blast. Simple tools (drill, punch, nipper, snipper, hammer, screwdriver, and Dremel with a drum sander bit) were all that are needed. All of the parts are there and the printed instructions were clear.
Matt Holmes provided expert instruction and in just over 20 minutes I had a functioning frame. I purchased a lower parts kit and a slide kit from Matt. The slide was also in parts. I never knew Glocks had an insert for a firing pin channel.
Successfully Test fired with 115gr reloads that I use for my PCC’s. I had a couple not go into battery. The pistol likely needs some break-in. The 8lb trigger took some getting used to (I have 3.5lb in my Glocks).
Definitely a lot of fun - Only thing I noticed is that the frame is wider than a Glock 17 - this handmade pistol would not fit into any of my holsters that fit Gen1 and Gen3 Glocks.
